My Grey T-Shirt Obsession

Sunday, December 20th, 2009

I’m not sure what triggered it, but about a year ago I became obsessed with grey t-shirts and have found it very difficult not to wear one everyday since! I love wearing an oversized soft grey tee to bed and when I wakeup find another grey tee to wear into the office with a floral skirt or with jeans and a blazer. I also love wearing them with black skinny jeans and black converses on the weekends or with oversized sweats to the gym. There is literally no occasion where I don’t want to wear a grey tee. When I say “grey tee” I’m not talking about just any grey tee, but there are three perfect grey tees I found a year ago after years of wearing grey tees I didn’t love so much. I think what makes a great grey tee is the cut and fabric that wears and washes so well. Below are the grey tees I simply LOVE and think are perfect. I also included a few celebs in grey Kain Label tees! Once again to confirm my grey tee obsession I mentioned “grey tee” 12 other times in this BLOG!!! Sorry!! I am definitely obsessed!

My Style Icons

I did a 100 Day Twilight Jacket Giveaway contest with chickdowntown.com on our Twitter page. Everyday I would tweet a question and have my followers tweet back answers. At the end of the day I would pick a winner (we had a lot of fun with it). One of the first questions was, “Who’s style do you admire most and why?” I had a hard time thinking about my response to this question because I can’t name just one!! I recently picked up a book called “Fashionista”, which lists a century of style icons by Simone Werle. Here is the list of people whose style has inspired me the most:

Kate Moss: Kate and I both share a love for denim (skinny jeans & their cut offs), grey and black and that “I just got out out of bed and threw this on” look.

Kate Moss

SJP as Carrie Bradshaw: Where do I start… Watching Carrie on Sex and the City made me love fashion even more than I thought possible. It was as if she was a girl always playing dress up and living the fantasy us “girly girls” dream about.

Carrie Bradshaw

Rachel Zoe: She really just gets it. Watching her show I see that same love for fashion I have and how much it means to her.

Rachel Zoe

Agyness Deyn: I’m obsessed with her edgy street style. She obviously doesnt care what people think and dresses for herself and her lifestyle.

Agyness Deyn

Babe Paley: I think Truman Capote said it best “Babe Paley had only one flaw: she was perfect. Other than that, she was perfect.”

Babe Paley

Jackie O: From her Valentino sunglasses to her Gucci bags to her shift dresses and A line skirts, Jackie O had a signature look all her own that has remained utterly timeless. I don’t think anyone will ever forget her in that pink Chanel suit and pillbox hat.

Jackie O

Chloe Sevigny: Every time I see a pic of her out I think “Oh no she didnt, BUT I LOVE it!!”

My Fashion Faux Pas

Sunday, December 20th, 2009

One of my most embarrassing fashion moments occurred a few years ago. As I walked by a Ralph Lauren store, I was inspired by all the great new jackets, polos, T’s and hats for the US OPEN. While I myself am not the best tennis player, I do enjoy playing and especially going to watch the great Roger Federer. I bought my grama, a huge tennis fan, a jacket and bought my husband and I a few things. A week or two later we got great tickets to the US OPEN, and I thought, “Why not wear my new RL US OPEN stuff?! It will be perfect for this, very sporty!”

As we arrived and were finding our seats, I noticed that all the staff was wearing RL polos! Then the game got started, and the people that round up all the stray tennis balls were wearing exactly what I was wearing!! Same hat, same polo, even the same color khaki shorts!! “YIKES!! Am I in uniform?” I thought.

People were looking at me curiously. Did they wonder if I worked there? Ralph Lauren himself was even there with his family! He was seated in a box a few rows behind me! None of them were dressed in their own US OPEN gear – just me and the staff! Needless to say, I felt extremely silly to have come to the US OPEN in official uniform, but I had a great time nonetheless!
