Since many of you seem to be big Carrie Bradshaw/SJP fans, I wanted to share the story about how I came face to face with my idol. I had just finished lunch at Barneys in NYC. It was a stormy day; the rain was pouring down! As we waited in the entrance way for a car to pick us up, out walks Sarah Jessica Parker herself, alone, dressed to kill and in full hair and makeup. I think she had a TV appearance that morning. With bags in both hands, she slowly walked to the door in front of where my husband and I were standing and said, very politely, “Excuse Me.” My husband, not having a clue as to who she was smiled and said, “Hi, of course” and stepped aside while I stood there frozen in utter shock!
I tried to speak, I wanted to tell her how she and her show single handedly changed my life. How I moved across the country alone to the big city, where I met my husband, and began this journey into the fashion industry and it was all because of her. But instead I stood there unable to move or speak. I also held in my hand a national magazine with one of our chickdowntown ads in it. I could have showed it to her!! Told her she had been my inspiration!
Once the initial shock wore off I saw that she was climbing into a Silver Toyota Prius, and I told my husband to run out, knock on her window and show her our ad. He is not shy in any sense of the word, but knocking on her window was out of the question- even for him. I watched her car pull away and stood in disbelief at what had just happened. If me and SJP should ever come face to face again I WILL say hello even if it kills me!
