What to Wear: Venice Beach

Venice Beach

Venice Beach was voted one of the nation’s “funkiest towns.” When I go to Venice Beach I always rent a bike. I love to ride along the boardwalk and take in the crazy scene, which usually includes fortunetellers, jugglers, and acrobats. I also like to stop and see what the street vendors are selling or maybe catch a glimpse of the skating guitarist, Harry Perry. Even if you’re not into art, you can’t miss the artful graffiti that adorns the walls of the buildings along the boardwalk. When I go to a beach like Venice Beach, I dress completely different than I would if I were going to a beach in the Hamptons.

If you’re headed to Venice Beach, I love these pieces. They are almost as crazy and cool as Venice.

Weekends

Sunday, December 20th, 2009

This weekend I asked my Twitter followers how they love to spend their weekends. In addition to posting some of my favorite responses to this question, I thought I’d share how I like to spend my weekends as well…

- I love the reprieve of answering 100+ emails coming in at all hours of the day. Because most showrooms, etc. are closed on the weekends, this number is drastically decreased.
- Guilt free sleeping in!
- Brunch with my son and husband. We do this EVERY weekend. I order something healthy and get to pick at Brody’s pancakes.
- Cooking. I just watched Julie and Julia, which inspired me to cook. BTW, great movie! This weekend I made Bruschetta and Chicken Madeira.

- Reading. I am reading several books right now (I have a short attention span), including The Widow Clicquot, which is the story of the Madame Clicquot of my favorite Veuve Clicquot Champagne. The first time I had Veuve we had just jumped off our friend’s boat in the Hamptons and swam to the shore of Sunset Beach. There we had lunch on the beach and drank bottles of Veuve. It is one of my best memories and I have loved the champagne ever since. I am also reading Elsewhere by Gabrielle Zevin. It’s about a girl of 15 who dies and goes to “Elsewhere” where you age backward then return to Earth.

- I also like to get in a really long workout and call friends and family that I haven’t spoken to all week.
- And last but not least, watching Entourage and Hung Sunday night on HBO!!!

Here were a few of my favorite answers from my Twitter followers:

Winner alexaRkopel: I’m in my 20s but I still love going to the movies w/my dad. It’s been a tradition since I was a kid & I’ll never get too old for my dad.
jillstein: Perfect day = sleep late, long run on Hudson, hang w/ hubby, read on roof deck, nap, cook dinner for friends.
oceangirl621: Random road trips w/ my hubby, our baby, & the dog-never know where we’ll end up, but it’s always an adventure of some sort!
grrr_emily: My ideal weekend includes sunny weather, cute shoes, vintage shops, and Starbucks iced green tea, with my boyfriend =)
beehock: Catch up with my mom! we live far away, but we love to spend quality time chattin’ on the phone about last weeks events :)
thedevotv: Running along San Francisco’s Embarcadero and getting fresh squeezed OJ from the Farmer’s Market after finishing!
drakesmommie: Being with my son! I never feel like I get enough time in the week, so weekends I always try to do something special with him.
jillaty: Spend time with my family, almost every weekend we take trips to various places, last week was Vermont for ice cream!
mamahlee: Playing tennis with my father. We hardly see each other because of hectic schedules. It’s nice to catch up and let out stress.
