I recently styled the photo shoot for chickdowntown.com’s big relaunch, which is set to debut at the end of the month. Shoots are a big production and there is a lot of prep work leading up to each one. A week or so before the shoot, I have to get the pieces together (usually there are hundreds – including accessories, shoes, etc.). I normally pull this from the inventory we have on hand, but this time I actually had to have it all sent in for the shoot since the majority of it were samples. This being the case, I couldn’t pull looks as I typically do beforehand and I wasn’t 100% sure of what samples I was and was not going to end up with. I also had to cast the models who I booked in NYC during the shows. I hadn’t worked with either one before, so there was also some uncertaintly there as well. On top of all of that, the three days prior to the shoot I was very sick. I actually didn’t eat more than a few crackers and some broth during those days, so at the shoot I was literally exhausted just walking across the room and only wished I could put the shoot off a few days until I could at least eat again, which was of course not possible. These shoots cannot be resheduled since more than ten busy people need to be confirmed weeks in advance and it’s tough to book everyone on the same day.
The day of the shoot we got off to a really late start since a Fedex box containing all of our jean samples arrived late; we also needed to put extensions on both models. One model normally does jeans sans hair and makeup while the other is having their hair and makeup done, but since our jeans were late to arrive, this was not an option. Finally by 1pm we were shooting. A lot of the best pieces hadn’t arrived, but I pulled some nice looks anyway and everyone did a great job. I was happy to be back together working on the shoot despite the fact that I was not feeling well. I tweeted some of my favorite shots all day, but didn’t want to give away too much and spoil the relauch. I am also planning another shoot for the end of this week, so CD has a nice big new look book and beautiful home pages. Check out some behind the scenes pics from the shoot and a sneak peek at a few of my favorite shots.
